Transport Infrastructure Development Discussed in Alatau City

The event was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev, Deputy Akim of the Almaty Region Aset Masabayev, Chief Executive Officer of the State Fund Alatau City Authority (ACA) Alisher Abdykadyrov, Akim of Alatau City Arken Utenov, as well as representatives of Samruk-Kazyna, relevant government agencies, and innovative technology companies.

As a reminder, on June 2, 2026, during his working visit to the Almaty Region, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting on the development of Alatau City and instructed authorities to accelerate the creation of its core infrastructure.
Particular attention was given to strengthening transport connectivity between the new city, Almaty, and other settlements within the Almaty agglomeration. Participants discussed mechanisms for implementing the President’s instruction to explore the construction of a high-speed suspended transit system (SkyTrain) linking Alatau City with Almaty through eastern and western transit corridors.

Alisher Abdykadyrov, Chief Executive Officer of Alatau City Authority, presented approaches to the development of Alatau City’s transport framework, which is currently being designed as part of the Master Plan in cooperation with one of the world’s leading transport and urban planning firms. The document envisions the integrated development of the road network, public transportation, logistics infrastructure, and innovative mobility solutions, while ensuring efficient connectivity between Alatau City, Almaty, the BAKAD ring road, the A-3 highway, and key investment projects. The implementation of these measures will support the sustainable development of the city’s transport system.
Arken Utenov, Akim of Alatau City, also delivered a presentation on the city’s development prospects and transport potential. Participants were introduced to plans for expanding the road network, public transportation, logistics infrastructure, and the deployment of modern transport technologies.

Special attention was also given to the development of innovative air mobility. Through the implementation of initiatives aimed at transforming Alatau City into a modern city of the future, Kazakhstan has positioned itself among the global frontrunners in readiness for the deployment of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions.

Currently, Alatau Advance Air Group, in cooperation with government agencies and international and domestic partners, is implementing a comprehensive program to establish a testing environment, conduct trials, and prepare for the commercial deployment of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, as well as the supporting infrastructure within Alatau City. These solutions are expected to be subsequently scaled across Almaty and the Almaty Region.

As part of the practical testing of new technologies, on May 19, 2026, Alatau City hosted the first demonstration flight of an eVTOL aircraft in the history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Following the meeting, participants agreed to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the transport infrastructure development of Alatau City, encompassing road, rail, urban public transport, and Advanced Air Mobility projects.
