Alatau City Strengthens Technological Partnership with the Republic of Korea

Technological Foundation: Implementing the Smart City Concept in Partnership with KIND
During the negotiations, particular attention was given to the practical aspects of smart city development.
The core framework for this cooperation is a Memorandum of Understanding, signed in December 2025 between Alatau City Authority, the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND).
This document enables the effective application of Korea`s expertise in designing intelligent urban management systems and the development of sustainable urban infrastructure in Alatau City.
Transport Connectivity as a Driver of Investment Growth
A city’s integration into international logistics and transport networks is a critical driver of its development. During the negotiations, it was emphasized that the expansion of direct air connectivity - currently provided by Air Astana, SCAT Airlines, Asiana Airlines, and Eastar Jet - creates a solid foundation for attracting foreign investment.
The availability of regular flights makes the Alatau City project highly accessible to leading Korean investors, urban planners, and engineers. This not only facilitates efficient business communication but also ensures the rapid exchange of advanced technologies and the attraction of highly skilled professionals essential for the high-quality implementation of the project at all stages.

Next Steps
To formalize the agreements reached, Nurgali Atystanov invited the Korean side to visit Alatau City and assess the pace of construction on site. This format will allow Korean experts and investors to move from discussions to the practical stage of participation in the project. The development of the urban environment is also expected to stimulate mutual tourism flows by improving the region`s accessibility.
The outcome of the negotiations was a shared readiness to expand cooperation in transport, logistics, and urban development. Joint projects in these areas will create the conditions for the launch of new production facilities and the inflow of foreign direct investment, positioning Alatau City as a key hub of Kazakh-Korean business partnership.
