Architectural and Infrastructure Solutions in Alatau City Discussed with International Experts

Governor of Almaty Region Marat Sultangaziyev met with representatives of Harry Dobbs Design Ltd and JSC Caspian Group to discuss conceptual plans for developing Alatau City. During the meeting, the participants presented several architectural and infrastructure proposals focusing on key aspects of Alatau City’s development: urban environment planning, job creation, educational infrastructure.

The discussion took place in an open format, with both sides exchanging ideas on shaping the future city’s unique character and exploring possible avenues of cooperation.

“Many people say it will be the next Dubai, the next Singapore, or Shanghai. But in reality, it needs its own identity — it should simply be Alatau,” Marat Sultangaziyev emphasized.

The Governor also pointed out that a law granting the city a special status is currently being prepared.

“We want people to have a dream of buying an apartment and moving here, making Alatau the place they build their future,” he said.

“The population of Almaty Region is growing every year, and the presence of universities, the climate, and opportunities to realize one’s potential all contribute to the city’s development. Creating jobs and conditions for education could address these issues,” he noted.

Marat Sultangaziyev’s view resonates with the stance of British architect Harry Dobbs, the founder of Harry Dobbs Design Ltd and a member of the Alatau City Development Council. In a recent interview, Dobbs noted that modern cities lose their individuality when infrastructure and the economy become the sole priorities. According to him, it is important to build cities where local culture, landscape, and everyday life shape the architectural identity.

This understanding of urban development aligns with the objectives set for the Alatau City project, which is envisioned to become a distinctive, modern, and comfortable city reflecting Kazakhstan’s cultural and natural distinctiveness.

JSC Caspian Group, Kazakhstan’s largest development company, is actively involved in developing the project’s urban planning solutions. With extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure and construction initiatives, the company serves as a key partner in shaping Alatau City’s modern architectural landscape.
